And now we are seeing the final months of the presidency of Jacques Chirac.
Chirac had a long and illustrious career in politics. One of his greatest failings as president was
his inability to handle the riots in the mostly-Muslim suburbs. His
refusal to allow the military to aide in getting control stains his
already mixed legacy. What many people in the US do not know is that
beat cops in France are un-armed. While it is uncertain who will take
over the leeds of France, what is certain is that it has to be someone
stronger. No one person can solve all problems. It appears at the
moment that the Interior Minister, Nicolas Sarkozy will take it.
Sarkozy is by far the stronger of the two. No offence to Madame Royal,
but a kid glove doesn't solve anything. Sarkozy is one of the few
leaders in Europe who isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. While the
dinosaur media in the US and weasels in power in Europe referred to the
rioters as poor and dis-advantaged, Sarkozy referred to them as Scum.
